E-5 (E-D1) coming on September 14!

Now that is good news for all us Oly fans… can’t wait :)

From 43 Rumors:

I just found a post on Forum.fourthirdsphoto.com from a user who claims to know some details about the E-5 and about the future of the E-system. Why should the info he is writing be correct? Because he gave 3-4 informations other sources already told me (and I didn’t post them on 43rumors). That’s why in my opinion he is telling the truth!

Here the text:

A brand new E-System DSLR poised to replace the Olympus E-3 will be officially announced on September 14 2010, which means Photokina time this year. The in-house project code for this camera is E-D1. There will be some significant technological statements made by this camera. The expected cost of this camera will be similar to when the E-3 was first launched. If you look back to those days (August 2007), you will find out what the expected price is in your own country. I cannot reveal anymore than what you now know. As for the demise of the E-System, the competition won’t be happy to hear that this will continue alongside the Micro FourThirds Pen-series.

New rumors regarding the E-3 successor

Olympus E-3 Announced 16-Oct-2007

For some time now there have been rumors about the Olympus E-3 (Announced 16-Oct-07) successor. Lately the rumors have taken a turn in the direction of a modular camera, like the Olympus MDN prototype from 1969.

From 43rumors.com

All our most important sources confirmed that Olympus is working on a completely new modular camera system. Some of them told us that Olympus original plan was to first release the Olympus E-3 successor and after that the first modular camera. But now Olympus is forcing the modular camera development and there are three possible scenarios:

  1. They release the Olympus E-5 at Photokina and the first modular camera by end 2010-early 2011.
  2. They will skip the Olympus E-5 release and announce a semi modular camera (it means with not all the planned features)
  3. Olympus makes the miracle and the modular camera should come with all the new features.

Japanese invention award to Olympus

Olympus’s dust reduction system, incorporated both in its E-series DSLRs and Micro Four Thirds cameras has won an award in Japan’s National Invention Awards 2010. The awards are organized by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) every June to honor the most significant patents of awarded in the previous year. Olympus Development Division manager Kawai Sumio will receive the award sponsored by national newspaper Asahi Shimbun, for the dust reduction system. The original patent application was made in December 2000, with the technology first appearing in the company’s E-1 DSLR in 2003.

No mirrors in the Olympus E-system within two years time

The Olympus E system of Four Thirds cameras is likely to be completely mirrorless in two years time, according to Olympus America’s DSLR product manager.

“I would say that within 24 months the E system will not have a mirror box at all.’ Pelkowski said, ‘Up until we launched the Pen cameras all manufacturers were doing was fitting a digital sensor in what is ultimately a film camera body – there was nothing different. But with digital and electronic technology we can make cameras so much smaller.”
